Butterfly Exhibit

Last weekend we decided it would be fun to stop and see the Butterfly Exhibit before church. Little did we know how it would turn out!

We walk in and the kids love it. They take their sticks and they start looking at the butterflies.

Something, however, about 15 minutes in happened with Ady and she completely switched! She was suddenly terrified of the things and wanted nothing to do with them. I'm wondering if because there were SO many flying around her head that it was just too much for her. Either way, it was kinda cute.

Drew loved catching them and getting them on his finger though! And we might or might not have put a couple close to Ady just for a reaction. #parentsoftheyear :)

15 Years

15 years ago today was Derek and I's first date.  (Full story here)  I know the dating anniversary is pretty minimal but we like to get out for dinner to celebrate. Last Friday we enjoyed a delicious dinner at a place called TruFire that we got tons of recommendations for. It was good although not as nice as we had hoped for a special date night! Next time we'll be going all out. Ha!

Soccer Stud

Last year Drew was adamant about not playing but this year he wanted to join a team again. Their team name is the Cowboys and they practice once a week with 1-2 games on the weekends. It's only 4 on 4 with no goalie and they don't keep score. It's very low key which is perfect for him. That being said, his first game they were absolutely killed. It was like 15-0 and these boys should be in another league. The last 2 games though they won by a couple points each! We still struggle with Drew's not being aggressive and being so worried about getting in there to get the ball. He also likes to just walk instead of run when all other players are running to get the ball so we're working on that as well. He likes it, which is all that matters, but it might not be his lifelong sport. :)

Weekend in KC

For Labor Day we drove up to Kansas City for a quick stay with family. We visited a marble museum to see how they were made, hit up Deanna Rose Farmstead and enjoyed some quality time with both families.

The following weekend we had the doggie dunk for Bailey and it was a blast. It's her absolute favorite thing all year long and she loves fetching her balls in the pool!

Summer Recap

Here's what I put on FB about our summer last weekend:

My son would describe our summer fun in two words: Nailed it.

And yes, he's 6 and only recently discovered this term so it's totally not outdated to him. But I would agree. When you move to a new city with zero friends, family or clients and 2/3rds of the camps you had lined up for your oldest are cancelled, you have no choice but to up your stay-at-home mom game. And you bet your ass I did just that. We FILLED our days with activities around the city, did arts and crafts, hit up the pool a million times, watched movies, enjoyed frozen treats, cooked, took bike rides, had trips to several parks and scheduled playdates with our good friends who live over in Dallas. But the absolute best parts and the ones I'll never forget? When we were playing in the playroom and the dog farted and the kids and I died of laughter for what seemed like an hour. Or the numerous performances we got from Ady and her new karaoke machine. Or when Drew asked to take a nap and I got some snuggling time with my non-snuggler. The small things. Those were the best.

It sure was a summer to remember and one I absolutely loved and if you don't count the tantrums from Miss Priss, I'd have to say we nailed it too.
