Headache city is finally started to simmer down a bit. We are officially home owners in Texas and the in-laws are back in KC until late June we they come back to DC to move their stuff (
more thoughts on that coming soon). Now we just have to get our Ohio house sold. Which, actually, we're in an AWESOME position for as Derek's job purchases the house at appraised value if we can't sell it after 30 days on our own so I really shouldn't be stressed, was just hoping to get a bit more than appraisal.
Anyway, let me back up a bit on the Texas house just so I remember how stressful the whole thing was years down the road. Derek and I took the kids down to Texas a few weeks back and met my parents who drove down from KC. We toured tons of houses and drove by tons more narrowing down where we wanted to be and the neighborhoods we'd like to land in. Eventually we found one that was perfect so we put an offer in. Long story short, another offer was accepted so we left the city knowing we had a couple of months to keep looking for what we wanted. We had already done tons of research on schools and kinda new the general areas within the city we wanted to be so this trip more narrowed down to actual neighborhoods. The one we settled on most is new, young and awesome!
The issue with Texas is the reputation that you can purchase 6,000 square feet for like $500K. Unfortunately that's not how it is anymore and we've had several people explain how the market picked back up a few years ago. Sure you can get cheap housing but it's in terrible school areas. And sure it's not nearly as expensive as DC obviously but in the good school districts you get about half that square footage for around a half a mil.
Which, quite frankly, no one is complaining about as that's plenty of room for our 2 kiddos and 1 furball! Anyway, a few days after being home I posted in a mommy group that we joined saying we're looking and if anyone has their house coming on the market soon to let me know. You've got to suck them up FAST in the North Fort Worth area! A few hours later a mom messaged me saying her original offer might fall through and if we were interested in the specs. They fit our needs perfectly and so we requested the zillow link. It was perfect. Sure we wanted a few hundred more square feet and Derek wanted his 3 car garage but it was definitely priced to move quickly and who knows if our next home was going to be a forever home anyway! Their house was taken off the market and was going to be put back up in a few days so we asked if our realtor could get in to take a peek before it went back up.
After tons of texts and emails they said they would let us in the next day to see the house and Derek and I decided to book a flight to get me down there. He hated the idea that we'd put an offer on a house that we hadn't seen in person so I agreed. I rented a car, stayed at my girlfriends house in Dallas and was literally in the city for less than 24 hours but it was perfect for us. A larger lot than most others (still small since the DFW area apparently doesn't have big yards anywhere), only a few years old and well maintained inside with an area off the playroom we could finish out for even more play space!
So we put an offer in, it was accepted, the inspection was done and our requests were agreed too, the appraisal came in good for us and we're basically done! EEK! Super exciting and glad we have a place to come home to when we move in June!
